Important things to know

What to look for in a portrait photographer

it's all about knowledge

When searching for a photographer, there are a few important things to keep in mind. There are literally THOUSANDS of portrait photographers now, but not all are created equal. So how do you know you have chosen the correct one?

Look at their portfolio, this is probably the number one thing most people look at first. Do you like their style? What type of sessions are in their portfolio? Are their photos sharp and in focus? Easy right? So now that you are happy with the style, you look for rates.

How much will they cost me? Keep in mind professional photographers take pride in their work and spend time on each photo delivered. It is their passion and their source of income. If you feel their rates are too expensive, ask what they offer. Good photographers will edit each photo individually, no batch edits. They will shoot with quality equipment. They will spend time scouting locations for their clients. They will offer a contract to protect everyone involved. They will have insurance. They will tell you exactly what you get for the package you are buying. How many photos. Online album. Print release. Option to order prints. They will tell you what their turnaround time is. These are just a few things to consider when choosing a portrait photographer. It doesn’t have to be stressful. Ask questions, a good photographer will be happy to assist you and make reasonable accommodations  the best they can.
